All LAWS dogs are now kept for 7 days for behavioural and temperament assement prior to adoption with a view to finding it the best possible home. If you spot a dog that interests you please fill in our pre-adoption questionnaire indicating the dog's name. We will then add that questionnaire to the dog's file and the successful applicant will be contacted when a suitable match found. We always try to match the dog's temperament and trait characteristics to the applicants home. Please be as honest as possible to ensure the best match.

  A Little About The Dogs
Earl
Walker Hound
Tan and White
Male (Neutered)
2 1/2 years old
Earl is a 2 ½ year old neutered male, a beautiful and athletic tri-coloured Walker Hound. He is well known for his endurance and willingness to work. He would be best suited to an outdoor life that would stimulate his retained instincts and urges to hunt. Earl is a very sociable dog with limited social skills. He has retained puppy/adolescent greeting behaviours which are presently being worked on at the shelter. The new owner would be expected to continue to provide this ongoing necessary training for Earl. Obedience classes, and perhaps “Scenting” classes, at a school that employs positive reinforcement methods are recommended for Earl and his new people. Earl has a high aptitude for learning. He requires clearly established rules, boundaries and limitations in order to feel safe and secure in his new environment. Earl’s new owner would need to be a calm, fair and composed individual willing to educate himself on simple behaviour modification methods and relaxation techniques to be put into practice with Earl. Living with an owner that would acknowledge Earl’s above mentioned needs in a domestic/home environment would allow Earl to be a working dog as well as an affectionate and loving companion.

Myla
Pit Bull Terrier Mix
Brown and White
Female (Spayed)
2.5 years old
Due to the Pit Bull ban in Ontario, we are seeking a home for this sweet gal outside of the province. Proof of residency is required.

Myla is in need of a one-dog home because she does not feel comfortable with other dogs around her. She does love people, but caution should be taken around children.
Arrived:  Jun, 2011
Anana
Basenji / Shiba Inu Mix
Fawn and White
Female (Spayed)
9 Months old
Anana is not available for adoption at the present time. We are currently working with her fear related issues. However, she would be available to a Foster Candidate that is very patient, calm and very knowledgeable about fear issues in dogs. Anana will require extensive desensitization to everyday life situations.

Tracker **On Foster**
Hound Mix
Red and White
Male (Neutered)
1 year old
Tracker is a gorgeous hound! He is also sweet and loving toward those he knows and loves. Because of Tracker's "happy-go-lucky" attitude, it doesn't take him long to warm up to you.

Because Tracker is a hound, it is advised that he be adopted to a home with a fenced yard. Like all other hounds, it has been bred into Tracker to follow his nose. We don't want him to wind up back at LAWS.

Tracker is clean and great with people of all ages. However, he will need some obedience training on leash.

Charlie
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Mix
Black and White
Male (Neutered)
1 year
Charlie is a large, 1 year old neutered male, Black and White, Greater Swiss Mountain Mix. When Charlie joined us in August 2011, he was very frightened and confused. He has since become comfortable with the staff and he has learned to trust them. However, he is nervous and fearful around strangers and unfamiliar environments which, if not handled appropriately by a knowledgeable owner, can potentially lead to aggressiveness. Charlie is a very loveable dog who needs affection, companionship and an experienced owner who is patient and willing to provide him with the necessary training and behavior modification program. Charlie will then be very loyal and bond quickly with his new owner(s). Charlie knows basic commands and he is very responsive to gentle training. He will shake-a-paw but… only with his right paw!

Arrived:  Aug, 2011
