Friends and supporters of LAWS

The following people and organizations have assisted LAWS in many ways. We are grateful for their assistance and help. On behalf of the animals at LAWS, thank you for your support. 


Inspired by their Chocolate Lab Rosie, two young girls from Carleton Place planned, organized and executed a Fundraiser for LAWS. On Saturday April 18, 2009 Gillian and her sister Katelyn campaigned for donations of canned animal food and cleaning supplies at the Independent Gocer in Carleton Place. It was a very successful day ending up with 280 lbs in food and supplies and $263.12 in cash donations! Way to go girls!!


Thank you to Foodsmiths of Perth for hosting our Cookbook launch and signing on Friday March 20th. Foodsmiths will continue to offer this fabulous cookbook for sale in their store.
Holly Ault (author) and Dory Tuvim,(chef extraordinaire) were on hand to sign book copies and samples of Tahini were given out.


A very special thanks to Les Dempsey of Dempsey Studio for the fantastic photography for this year's Pet Pics with Santa! This year was the best year yet with more than 70 companion animals in line waiting for their turn with Santa. It was a night filled with fun and laughs. "For the Love of Ink", a tattoo parlor in Perth, planned, organized and executed a unique fundraiser for LAWS and managed to raise $3000 to help our sheltered animals. On September 20, 2008 - 89 tattoos and 6 piercings were completed in a 24 hour day. There were more than 150 people in attendance at this event. People started lining up at 6:30 AM had a steady flow for the full 24 hours. Special Thanks to Curtis, Jenn, Krista, Mike, Sunni, Morgan, Lisa and Crystal for making this day possible. Dog Walk Thank you:
Last Saturday's Dog Walk was a tremendous success. LAWS wishes to thank the following people and businesses for their tremendous support:

A huge thank you to Saturday’s Open House volunteer team. The day was a tremendous success thanks to your hard work. Thank you, also, to everyone that attended the event and supported our shelter. A special congratulations to Elizabeth Sly, our new garage sale coordinator. Your tireless work over the past few weeks led to a tremendous sale result. Thank you to the garage sale team for their support and enthusiasm.

LAWS wishes to recognize the efforts of Bonnie Pengelly, who has recently retired as Garage Sale Coordinator. Bonnie managed the LAWS Garage sale for many years and her hard work is appreciated by everyone. On behalf of all of us Bonnie, thank you and good luck.

A very special thank you to Jim McKenna and his team from the Giant Tiger, Smiths Falls. They recently held a fundraiser in their store and raised funds to make a donation to LAWS.

Thank you to Country Bumpkins in Merrickville for their donation to LAWS following their bottled water sales. During the summer months, Country Bumpkins sold bottled water in the store, mainly as a service, for $1 per bottle and donated 50 cents to LAWS. They sold nearly 900 bottles! Thank you to Country Bumpkins store owners Denise & Ken Large, for thinking of LAWS. Country Bumpkins carries the most glorious fudge, lots of pet-themed gifts and high-quality furniture

Bonnie and friends Bake Sale and Bazaar was a huge success. Bonnie would especially like to thank Danielle, Marilyn, Theresa,Molly and Sonya for help given at the sale. Thanks to those who donated bake goods. A special thanks to Joan and Chris for their most generous donations and Sonya for doing the silent auction.

LAWS thanks everyone who has donated new items to the Garage Sales. Many of these items are saved and used each year for Bonnie & Friends sale, the Perth Bazaar, the Sale done by Freda in Carleton Place and other events. All of the donations and the public's participation in our sales make a great deal of difference to our success. On behalf of our furry friends we THANK YOU.

LAWS would also like to thank Vicki who set up at the County Fair Mall for weeks selling raffle tickets, calendars and collecting donations. She had assistance from Marg, Mike and Yvonne. Thank you to all the generous people who did make donations, buy tickets and calendars and also donated food

A very special thank you to the Lanark Vet Clinic for hosting our pet pics with Santa last Saturday. You made us feel so welcome and the event was a great success. Thank you for your continued support of our shelter! Thank you to Bonnie and friends who worked at Saturday's Bake Sale & Bazaar at the County Fair Mall. We appreciate all your hard work on behalf of the animals

Thank you to Freda Ingram and Jean Le-Breton for all their hard work at Freda's sale in Carleton Place. We are so grateful for your friendship and support. The animals thank you from the bottom of their hearts.

LAWS would like to thank everyone that helped with this years Perth Bazaar. Despite the rainy weather, we had a great turnout of volunteers and supporters. The event was a tremendous success. Thank you to Frances Batoff and everyone that helped at the Bazaar.

A special thank you to Frances Batoff for her BBQ fundraising efforts this summer. She was also the recipient of the 2007 Perth Medal for her volunteer efforts. Frances was recently honoured at the Perth and District Chamber of Commerce dinner where she was presented with this honour by Perth Mayor John Fenik. Congratulations Frances and thank you from everyone at the Lanark Animal Welfare Society. A note of thanks to all of our volunteers who work so hard all year trying to help us raise money so that we can continue helping animals.

Congratulations to Paws-A-Bit Merrickville for celebrating their one year anniversary. They held a fashion show on Saturday October 6th and have donated a portion of the day’s sales to LAWS. Throughout their first year in business, PAWS A BIT has held numerous fundraisers in aid of LAWS. We thank you for your friendship and support. Congratulations on your first year of success. Please visit Paws A Bit to find that unique pet gift. Their special merchandise will have you, and your pet, grinning while you “paws” for thought.

Cat Adopt-a-thon:
Thank you to the many families who came out to adopt a cat during our Thanksgiving week of hope. We are delighted to announce that 44 cats have been adopted into loving homes as a result of this adopt-a-thon. Sadly, there are still 88 cats in our shelter that weren’t chosen and they continue to wait for their new adoptive family.

LAWS 1st Annual Spaghetti Dinner:

Saturday’s Spaghetti dinner fundraiser was a huge success. Thank you to everyone that purchased tickets to support the shelter. We had a number of guests asking to reserve tickets for next year which means it was a super evening! A special thank you to everyone who so eagerly helped with the event. Of special mention are Larry Wilkinson-LAWS’ OSPCA Inspector for making the delicious spaghetti sauce, Tania Blair and her friend Kellie whose help and organization made the event a huge success. My friend and neighbour Liz Mawer who washed dishes for four hours. The Honsl family (Sasha, Sandra, Bryan, Jenna and Lea) who helped throughout the entire night. Stacie Beveridge, our shelter Manager, who was on hand all evening working the bar. Stacie also made the beautiful placemats featuring our shelter animals awaiting adoption -excellent job! Eugene Ursual who managed the tickets at the door. Pauline Anderson who made the Italian arbour, sewed the table runners and helped with the decorations. Elizabeth Sly for her constant encouragement and help. Virginia (Gini) Daoust for her expertise and use of her catering equipment.

The following people made desserts for the evening: The LaFramboise family (cheesecake), Liz Mawer (apple pie and Tiramisu), Carolyn White (apple and pumpkin pies), Wendy Yendall (pinwheels), Tania Blair (lemon squares), Pauline Anderson (Triffle), De Winkel (Pecan pie).

A special thank you to Patti and friends of Down to Earth Gardens (Burritts Rapids) for hosting their fourth annual Garden Party for LAWS. Last Sunday’s fundraiser was a huge success, the weather was fantastic and the event was very well attended. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event. It is through the efforts of fundraisers like these that LAWS is able to continue its good work.

A special thank you to Bev Beath for buying us a brand new weed whacker for our shelter. We appreciate the generosity you have shown us over the years.

LAWS’ 1st garage sale of the season was a great success. Thank you to everyone that donated and purchased items. Thank you to the volunteers that helped at this event, including the BBQ team. At this time, we are NOT accepting any donations for the garage sale.

Thank you to Foodsmiths of Perth for hosting our 5th annual Dog Wash on June 16th. The event was a huge success and there are fifty-eight sparkling clean dogs in Lanark county thanks to our hardworking volunteers who bathed, clipped and pampered pooches from 9-2. This year we were able to offer professional pet portraits thanks to Ralph Buttrum and Graeme Crabb of Perth Digital Imagination. A special thank you to Kim of Woofs & Wags of Perth for leading our dog washing team. Dodds and Erwin once again lent us four large bath tubs and we thank them for their ongoing support. Thank you to A & B Ford for arranging pick up and delivery of the tubs. Paws Oasis (for the nail trimming). Thank you to everyone involved in making this event a success in an effort to raise funds for our shelter animals. Furball 2007 Thank you:
Thanks to the efforts of organizer Cathy Hasler, the 2007 LAWS Furball was a phenomenal success! Cathy did a fantastic job and a wonderful evening was had by all. A very special thank you to everyone who has donated their Canadian Tire Money to the shelter. Thanks to your combined donations we were able to purchase a much needed pressure washer for our dog runs.

A special thank you to Margaret Ashworth for her donation of an “almost-new” Whirlpool dryer. We can now get our animal blankets and towels cleaned and dryed in record time. Thank you for your donation and for thinking of LAWS.

A very special thank you to Joan Chaisson of Ottawa for sewing 60 beautiful quilted cat beds for our shelter kitties. You spent hours of your own time making these items which bring so much pleasure to the cats in our care awaiting loving homes.

A huge thank you to Linda Dryer of Carleton Place. This amazing lady called us on Thursday March 15th advising us to expect delivery of a brand new Industrial capacity washing machine. Our old washing machine was on its last spin (literally) and Linda bought us a brand new one to make our job of washing dog and kitty blankets so much easier. Linda purchased the washing machine from Art Flint of Flint’s Appliance in Carleton Place. At his expense, Art then upgraded the washer to an even higher model and delivered and installed the new washing machine the very same day. Thank you to Linda and Art from all your friends at LAWS. We are overwhelmed and touched by your generosity.
