Maggie and Teddy
The following is our happy ending story:
After we lost our beautiful and much loved cat Gustav to cancer after 14 years in early 2006, we figured we'd never be able to bring ourselves to have another pet as we were so heartbroken after the experience. His food & litter sat in the cupboard for a bit as removing it would have been too final a step. Then, after seeing photos of cats in need in the EMC week after week, something broke and one day I suggested to John that maybe we should at least go and spend some time with the cats as it would probably do us some good. We donated Gustav's food and litter as a first step and then sometime later decided to return to LAWS one weekend for one of their cat sales. Our intention that day was perhaps to bring home one special little feline. Instead, as we had such a hard time in deciding which to take as they were all so lovely and special in some way, we ended up coming away with two. A decision we are glad we made that day! We adopted Maggie and Max (formerly known as Teddy).
They are doing splendidly after a bit of a shaky start in getting accustomed to their new home, each other and Maggie's complications after she refused to leave her spay incision alone! Maggie has turned out to be such a sweet, loyal and cuddly little girl who decidely prefers the comfort of the indoors close to Mom and Dad. It's funny and heartwarming at the same time to see how she loves to groom Max at least once a day with little licks. And Max, our beautiful, bold adverturer, is quite a character. Funny, intelligent and decidely independant we've learned. He just loves to explore our property and roam the nearby farmers fields, though he makes sure to come back in regularly to refuel and check in with us which I am thankful he does. He's seems so totally comfortable in his surroundings that he often sleeps on his back which is pretty amazing, and a gratifying sign that he feels safe and comfortable here with us. They are both wonderful companions that we look forward to having around for many years to come. Thanks LAWS!

Dec 2007 Update
It's been awhile since our initial update on Maggie and Max, our two beautiful and much cherished kitties that we adopted from the LAWS shelter in 2006. We've taken quite a few pictures since adopting these two.
They are both doing great, and having a good time here. One of the funniest pictures to-date is one of a few that we snapped of Max which we thought that people would get a kick out of. This guy is one of the most hilarous cats that I've ever known. He is so much himself, inquisitive and curious about everything. What's so hilarious is the manner in which he likes to sleep at times which is all sprawled out, on his back and usually somewhere warm like in front of the woodstove here. I am just in awe of how comfortable and laid back he is. What a life! :-)
Maggie has really blossomed into a healthy and happy little girl .. Especially when she gets to slumber in Moms' lap. She's still a bit shy around strangers and prefers the quiet to a lot of commotion, but has really come to embrace the surroundings here in that she now enjoys being outside and for longer periods walking about through the gardens and sitting and watching squirrels and chipmunks scamper her and there.
We feel really blessed with these two wonderful creatures, and extend our best wishes for the season and hope that all of LAWS animals come to realize their own happy ending.
Merry Christmas,
Brenda Campbell and John Duperron
