LAWS seeks calendar entries

The Lanark Animal Welfare Society is now seeking photo entries for their 2011 Charity Pet calendar.

Pet owners all have one (or many) - that cute photo of your dog gazing at you adoringly as only man’s best friend can, or perhaps the cat goofing around with their favourite toy. Those photos that give you a warm fuzzy feeling when you look at them, or make you laugh so hard you shed a tear. Why not share them with LAWS and help a good cause at the same time?

Send your photos in as well as your choice of calendar date as slots always fill up quickly. Entry deadline is Sept. 1 and prices this year follow that of previous years - $20 for the first photo and $10 for each additional photo entered. Photos may be sent electronically for the 2011 edition and are being looked after by Cathy Hasler. Email your photos to either cathy.hasler@rbc.com or shelter@lanarkanimals.ca attention to Cathy Hasler. To download an application in PDF format, click here. Adobe Reader required, to download, click here.

TR Leger Donation

TR Leger students have made another donation to LAWS! The students and staff brought a donation of $100 to the shelter at the end of May, as well as supplies, such as detergents, newspapers, hand soap, dog and cat food and more. The funds were raised from a bake sale held at the school, while the items donated came from a drive held at the Smiths Falls site over the course of a week and a half. LAWS sends a big thank you out to the students and staff who have been coming to the school over the course of the school year to walk the dogs and spend time with the animals at the shelter!

Notre Dame Donation

The funds were raised by the staff and students of Notre Dame Catholic High School in Carleton Place, a grade 7 - 12 school. The school held a Penny Drive for the high school panel which raised 500 dollars and the grade 7/8 panel gave a donation of 250 dollars from their fundraising account for a total donation of 750 dollars. Canadian Tire money was also donated and the Social Justice Committee will make this a focus for next year’s drive as well.

SHELTER NEWS
LAWS is pleased to announce that it has just joined in a partnership with Hill’s Science Diet pet food company. Hill’s will provide LAWS with dry animal kibble to feed all of the animals in our shelter. The food will be supplied to us free-of-charge (other than a small shipping fee). Feeding a consistent diet plays an important role in maintaining an animal’s health. The quality of the food is assured and there will also be less waste and fresh food every single day. We will be offering a free bag of food to every adopter to help keep the diet consistent, even after the adoption. Hills will supply DRY cat and dog food only so we will still by relying on the public for donations of wet/canned cat, kitten and dog food.
