From The Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) L.A.W.S., P.O. Box 156, Smiths Falls, ON, K7A 4T1:
The following are excerpts from letters we have received. They are so special that they must be shared:
We Get Letters….
Here is an “overdue” donation for the animal shelter. I had meant to send this at an earlier date, but somehow, it slipped down behind something and was forgotten. One of our Shelties, Skye, went exploring the other day and came prancing up to me with the donation slip held proudly between his teeth, so I thought I’d better get this off to you. Heather and Bill (and Skye)
To all the Staff of Laws: We adopted Lou (also known to us as Loudini, for his great escapes over the years) just over 5 years ago. I knew as soon as I saw him that he was the dog for us. He was skinny, had a skin infection, and barked/howled louder than any other dog there. One trip to the vet and a couple of weeks later, he was like a new dog. We couldn’t have asked for a better addition to our family, Lou acts like a third parent to our 3 children, and is more than happy to accommodate all of us with equal snuggle time. For anyone out there that thinks hounds are too much trouble, or wouldn’t make a good family pet, let me assure you hounds are wonderful. They should get much more recognition as a “great” family pet.
We are forever grateful to all the staff of LAWS, and the community members from all around that support them. I cringe to think what would have happened to Lou, and all the others if you organization had not been there for them. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
To any parents out there who are looking to involve your children in community work that they’ll want to do over and over again, I highly recommend taking your children to the shelter to walk dogs in the afternoon. Everyone leaves with a warm heart at the end of the day, even my almost teen insisted on giving up his allowance in favour of sponsoring a dog at the shelter. Try it, you’ll love it.
Thanks again from Sean, Brie, Bradley, Jacob, Emma and, of course, Lou.
Dear Laws,
I just had to drop you a line to let you know that I am finding Daphne to be the most adorable cat I have ever had the pleasure of having. She is everything you had promised and more. I love her to pieces already. She is by my side constantly and even on my knee when I'm on the computer. She sleeps in bed with me at night, just loves to be brushed, is very clean about herself and her litter box, she is quiet and respectful of the furniture and has her own little personality. She will give a little meow when she wants my attention if I happen to not see her right away. I promise you that she will have a wonderful kind and caring home here with me and my husband. I have to say she is my best buddy already and seems to be more attached to me than my husband so far and this is great because I wanted her to be my lap cat and she certainly is. It's kind of nice to have her take to me the way she has already, I've had other cats that all seemed to be my husband's buddy more than mine even though I was the one that fed and looked after them. Daphne is different that way, she's my side kick all the way. Thanks so much for providing me with a best friend and life long companion who I shall adore forever. Thanks also for being so kind and informative about Daphne, you sure told it like it was and when you said I had made a good choice. You can rest easy in knowing that she is a welcome addition to my family and she will receive all the best thats available for her. Sincerely, Cheryl
