Zach’s Blog:

Hi everyone, Zach here. I’m back blogging earlier than expected but I needed to get some things off my chest. From my vantage point, as the shelter cat (a.k.a. shelter manager) I’ve made some important observations.

Firstly, there still seems to be a lot of kittens out there so I’m thinking readers haven’t gotten the message about spaying and neutering. I was neutered many years ago and I can assure you that it hasn’t interfered with my cool status one bit. From personal experience I can tell you the procedure was painless and I’m still the same macho-muffin I’ve always been. You see, a cat’s personality has a lot more to do with what’s between their ears, rather than what’s between their hind legs!

Another thing I’ve been thinking about lately is the growing social conscience of the importance of shelters, such as LAWS. Lots of pet food companies are now donating a portion of their food sales back to animal shelters. You’ve probably seen some of these commercials on t.v. In our case, Hill’s Science Diet supplies our shelter with all of our delicious food for free. I’ve been harping at it for years, but people are finally realizing that before they go out and spend a gazzillion dollars on an animal in the paper, they should check with their local shelter. Why encourage profit-driven, unscrupulous breeders to create more animals for revenue, when there is a shelter right down the road filled to bursting with so many animals in need of good homes?

Lastly, I want to talk about the other animals in the shelter. Stacie, my assistant, also known as the REAL shelter manager, told me that we only have three dogs at LAWS but we have lots of cats. So this week, we are featuring four super four-legged, furry, friendly felines. Not as fabulous as “yours truly,” but still nice! I’ve taken a stroll through the cat wing and seen Ragdolls, Siamese, kittens, big cats, small cats of every size and shape. You can bet that whatever the model you are looking for, LAWS will have the feline friend of your dreams.

On a closing note, I just wanted to say that I caught my own reflection in the computer monitor while working on this blog and “man, I’m handsome.” Humans always act so surprised when they get up and I take their chair. I don't understand why they are so surprised. I mean, who would not want to take advantage of a pre-warmed chair?

Oh yes, before I forget. The Lanark County Quilter’s Guild have donated a beautiful hand-made quilt to LAWS this year. We will be starting to sell raffle tickets for the quilt in the near future. I promise not to get it covered with cat hair!

To my fellow-cats out there reading this blog, have you ever woken up in a box and wondered how you got there?

Love. Zach
